1-Cuando empezaste a pintar?
El 2013 fue el año en el que me inicié en el mundo de la pintura en aerosol y el graffiti. Yo empecé haciendo caracteres inicialmente y un poco distante de las letras. Sin embargo el hábito del dibujo que ha estado presente desde niño, es quien me ha ayudado a ir formando una propuesta que se alimenta de ambas posibilidades.
1-When did you start painting?
I got into the world of spray painting and graffiti in 2013. I started doing characters at first and stayed away from letters. However, my lifelong habit of drawing has helped me develop a style that merges both possibilities.
2-Dónde hiciste tus primeras piezas?
Mis primeras acciones con aerosoles fueron hechas en el pueblo donde nací y resido (Atenas, Costa Rica), luego he ido visitando diferentes zonas de diversas ciudades de Costa Rica y gracias a ello fui conectándome con la comunidad local, muchos de ellos ahora mis amigos.
2-Where did you make your first pieces?
My first experiences with spray paint were in my town where I was born and still live (Atenas, Costa Rica). I’ve since visited various areas across different cities in Costa Rica, and through that, I’ve connected with the local community, many of whom are now my friends.
3-De dónde salió el nombre de Crabneo?
Crabneo nació de un juego de palabras donde se unen un apodo de secundaria “crab” y un rotundo gusto por el cráneo humano. Es decir todo se debe a dos palabras crab + Cráneo.
3-Where did the name of Crabneo come from?
Crabneo came from a wordplay that merges my high school nickname “crab”, and my strong fascination in the human skull (which means ‘cráneo’ in Spanish). So, it’s just a mix of the two words: crab + skull ( ‘cráneo’ in spanish).
4-Has tenido algún escritor de referencia?
Dentro de la escena global hay mucha inspiración, desde que inicié hasta el día de hoy, sin embargo mi manera de dar respuesta a esta pregunta, es nombrar a dos crews que inspiran mi camino; son The weirds y Da Mental Vaporz. Los artistas que forman estos equipos son realmente increíbles y creativos, referencia de estudio y estimulación visual.
4-Have you had any reference writer?
There’s a lot of inspiration in the global scene, from when I started until now. However the best way to answer this question is by naming two crews that have really influenced me: The Weirds and Da Mental Vaporz. The artists in these crews are incredible and creative, a source of study and visual stimulation.
5-Qué pintura sueles usar cuando pintas?
La mejor pintura sin lugar a duda es la de Montana Colors, principalmente su línea 94.
5-What paint do you usually use when you paint?
The best paint without a doubt, is Montana colors, especially their 94 line.
6- El diseño gráfico te llevó al Graffiti o fue a la inversa?
Pregunta curiosa, realmente fue el graffiti quien me abrió las posibilidades a formarme en una profesión creativa y fue él quien me definió mis intereses por la carrera de Diseño Gráfico. Es decir el Graffiti y los aerosoles estuvieron de primero.
6- Did graphic design lead you to graffiti or was it the other way around?
Interesting question! Graffiti was what opened up the possibility of pursuing a creative career. It defined my interests in Graphic design. In other words, graffiti and spray cans came first.
7-Qué es lo que más te gusta del Graffiti?
Realmente lo que más me gusta es la posibilidad de jugar con conceptos, colores, gestos y formas. También la posibilidad de conocer y coincidir con otros escritores de graffiti referentes de otros países y crear vínculos que alimentan la inspiración por el arte graffiti.
7-What do I like most about Graffiti?
What I enjoy the most is the possibility of playing with concepts, colors, gestures and shapes. Also the chance to meet and connect with other graffiti writers from other countries, and create bonds that fuel the inspiration for graffiti art.
8-Sensaciones al empezar y terminar un muro?
Realmente vivo los procesos de creación como un acto mágico donde el mago soy yo y mi varita es el aerosol, lo vivo así porque me parece grandiosa la posibilidad de crear imágenes divertidas e irreverentes.
8-Sensations when starting and finishing a piece?
I truly experience the creative process as a magical act, where I’m a magician and my wand is the spray can. I see it this way because I think it’s an amazing opportunity to create funny and irreverent images.
9-Ciudades dónde has pintado?
Realmente no han sido tantas, San Jose (CRC), Bogotá (COL), Ciudad de México (MEX), Ciudad de Guatemala (GUA).

To be honest, there haven’t been that many: San Jose (CRC), Bogotá (COL), Ciudad de México (MEX), Ciudad de Guatemala (GUA).
10-Cómo definirías tu estilo?
Lo defino como arte raro, donde exploro el diseño de personajes constantemente y vínculo letras en algunas producciones. Me gusta la pareidolia, lo expresivo, lo absurdo e irreverente como temas de inspiración y exploración.
10-How do you define your style?
I define it as rare art, where I constantly explore character design and sometimes link letters in my productions. I like pareidolia, expressiveness, the absurd, and the irreverence as themes of inspiration and exploration.
