1-Cuando empezaste a pintar?
Hice mis primeros tags a principios del 2000. Quizás comencé incluso un poco antes, como dibujando en mi diario escolar. Pero no sé exactamente qué estaba haciendo en ese momento jajaja.. solo estaba escribiendo palabras en estilo pompas , letras con formas extrañas… lejos del graffiti.
1-When did you start painting?
I do my first tags in early 2000. Maybe i started even a little before, like drawing in my school diary.. but i don’t know exactly what i was doing at the time ahahah.. i was just writing words in bubble style, letters with strange shapes… far from graffiti.
2-Dónde hiciste tus primeras piezas?
La primera pieza oficial fue en 2006. Estaba con mi compañero Nynk en un antiguo Hall of Fame local llamado SILVER FAME (llamado así porque las luces del paso subterráneo eran amarillas, e incluso si usabas colores diferentes no se distinguían… así que tenías que usar solo plata y negro o desperdiciabas tus latas). Hicimos una pieza plateada con latas de aerosol BOMBERS, ¿quién las recuerda? Pulverización de altísima presión + primera vez que hacía una pieza… top.
2-Where did you make your first pieces?
The real official first piece was in 2006. I was with my partner Nynk in local old hall of fame named SILVER FAME (named like this because the lights in the underpass were yellow, and even if you used different colors they were not distinguishable.. so you have to use just silver and black or you waste your cans). 3-De dónde salió el nombre de Letters?
Mi primer tag original fue CUST. Después de un par de años cambié S y T para tener una mejor composición de letras… hice piezas clásicas de estilo graffiti desde 2006 hasta 2015/2016… luego comencé a experimentar con diferentes formas y letras primero en papel (caligrafía, mandala, rotulación… tipografía en general)… luego en la pared… el primer tag que hice en estilo script fue con la palabra “Majestic”, pero creo que el cambio real fue cuando hice un tag CUTS al revés… a partir de ese tag comencé a cambiar mi estilo, haciendo menos graffitis con mi tag y comenzando con piezas con fuentes grandes… hice un montón de ellos, palabras diferentes, estilos diferentes… me di cuenta de que mi tag CUTS ya no encajaba con ese estilo, así que decidí encontrar algo que “encajara” mejor con mi visión… Letters Player fue perfecto para mí.
3-Where did the name of Letters Player come from?
My firs original tag was CUST. After a couple of years i switched S and T to have better letters composition… i did classic graffiti-style pieces from 2006 till 2015/2016… then i started experimenting different shapes and letters on paper first (calligraphy, mandala, signpainting… typography in general)… then on wall.. the first piece i did in script-style was with the word “Majestic”, but the real switch i think was when i do a CUTS upside-down piece… from that piece i start changing my style, making fewer graffiti with my tag and starting with big font-pieces… i did a bunch of them, different words, different styles… i realized that my tag CUTS didn’t match that style anymore, so i decided to find something that was “fitting” better with my vision… Letters Player was perfect for me.
4-Has tenido algún escritor de referencia?
Mi primer amor fue por Love Letters y MSK, verdaderos reyes. Crecí viendo sus piezas y fueron realmente inspiradoras para mí. Todavía me encantan LL y MSK, pero si me preguntas quién es mi verdadera referencia, su nombre es Felipe Pantone. Empezó con el graffiti clásico, un estilo personal y sorprendente, en constante evolución. Sus obras de arte son realmente inspiradoras para mí, me encanta la forma en que conecta el arte y la tecnología en sus «obras de galería», junto con murales gigantes y graffitis.
Cuando sea mayor quiero ser Felipe Pantone jajajaja.
4-Have you had any reference writer?
First love was for Love Letters and MSK crews, true kings. I grow up watching their pieces and was really inspiring for me. I still love LL and MSK, but if you ask me who his my real reference, his name is Felipe Pantone. Started from classic graffiti, personal and amazing style, always evolving. His artwork are really inspiring for me, i love the way how he connect art and technology in his “gallery artworks”, together with giant murals and graffiti.
When i grow up, i want to be Felipe Pantone ahahah.
5-Que pintura sueles usar cuando pintas?
Utilizo casi exclusivamente sprays, (mi favorito es el Montana Black ) cuando hago mis piezas; a veces agrego un poco de pintura y pinceles si es necesario (principalmente en proyectos encargados).
5-What paint do you usually use when you paint?
I use almost just spray cans (montana black my favourite) when i do my pieces, i add some paint and brushes sometimes if needed (mostly on commissioned project).
6-El diseño Grafico te llevó al Graffiti o fue a la inversa?
Me gradué como diseñador gráfico y tengo que decirte que para mí, la gráfica y el graffiti iban en caminos paralelos hasta que comencé a hacer piezas con tipografías mixtas. Ahora en mis piezas encuentro una correlación de lo que es el diseño gráfico, ya que hago composiciones tipográficas mezclando fuentes y colores.
Pero al principio, el graffiti y el diseño gráfico eran cosas separadas.
6- Did graphic design lead you to graffiti or was it the other way around?
I graduated as graphic designer, and i have to tell you that for me, graphic and graffiti were on parallel ways until i started doing mixed-fonts pieces. Now in my pieces i find correlation of cours with graphic design, as i do typographic composition mixing fonts and colors.
But at the beginning, graffiti and graphic design was separate things.
7-Que es lo que más te gusta del Graffiti?
El graffiti es un mundo. Quiero decir, no es solo pintar con spray sobre una superficie, es una mezcla de experiencias, personas, historias. Me encantan las emociones de encontrar un nuevo lugar, la competencia, conocer gente, tener amigos en todo el mundo, 5 o 6 amigos viendo la misma pieza, me gusta esto, no me gusta esto, esto es un rey, esto es un juguete, horas en el auto, compartir experiencias y conocimientos, buenas historias y malas historias, un día entero en el Hall of Fame, unos minutos en el patio, adrenalina, miedo, coraje, satisfacción, pasión… Un mundo. Tengo suerte de ser parte de este mundo.
7-What do I like most about Graffiti?
Graffiti is a world. I mean, is not just spraying paint on a surface, is a mix of experience, people, stories. I love the emotions of finding a new spot, the competition, meeting people, having friends around the world, 5/6 friends watching the same piece, i like this i don’t like this, this is a king this is a toy, hours in car, share experience and knowledge, good stories and bad stories, whole day in the hall of fame, few minutes the yard, adrenaline, fear, courage, satisfaction, passion… A world. I’m lucky being a part of this world.
8-Sensaciones al empezar y terminar un muro?
Cuando empiezo una nueva pieza, me siento centrado, un poco asustado tal vez, especialmente si la pared es grande jajajaja. No quiero cometer errores. Quien me conoce sabe que tengo un enfoque casi de ingeniería para mis piezas. Después de hacer las primeras 2 o 3 líneas, me siento mejor y puedo continuar más tranquilo. Cuando termino, me alejo un poco de la pared y analizo lo que hice. En general, estoy satisfecho, pero SIEMPRE encuentro errores y partes en las que puedo mejorar. La próxima será mejor.
8-Sensations when starting and finishing a piece?
When i start a new piece, i feel focused, a little scared maybe, especially if the wall is big ahahah. I don’t want to make mistakes. Who know me knows, i have almost an engeneer approach for my piecese. After make the first 2-3 lines, i feel better and i can go on more chilled. When i finish, i make steps back from the wall and i analyze what i did. Mostly i’m satisfied, but i ALWAYS find mistakes and parts where i can do better. The next one is going to be better.
9-Ciudades dónde has pintado?
Italia de norte a sur, en distintos puntos. En Europa he pintado en Holanda y Bélgica un par de veces, pero quiero poner más banderas en mi mapa personal tan pronto como pueda.
9-Cities where you have painted?
Italy from north to south, different spots. In Europe i painted in Holland and Belgium a couple of times, but i want to put more flags on my personal map as soon as i can.
10-Cómo definirías tu estilo?
Comencé a usar la palabra “graffiti tipográfico” para referirme a mis obras de arte cuando comencé a hacer piezas con estilos mixtos. No sé si es la palabra correcta, pero resume y combina bastante bien.
10-How you define your style?
I started using the word “typograffiti” about my artworks when i started to do pieces with mixed styles, i don’t if it’s the right word but it resume and match pretty good.
11-En una dia Cuanto piensas en nuevas ideas para un muro, lienzo..
Soy totalmente adicto a esto. Creo que no me miento a mí mismo si digo que pienso en obras de arte, ideas y cosas así todo el día, todos los días. Puede que no haga nada físicamente durante semanas, pero mi mente siempre está trabajando.
11-In a day how much you think of new ideas for a wall, canvas..
I’m totally addicted to this thing. I think i’m not lying to my self if i say i think about artworks, ideas and stuff all day everyday. Then maybe i don’t phisically do anything for weeks, but my mind is always at work.
12-De los trabajos realizados , encargos, etc,.. tienes alguno preferido por estilo y dificultad ?
Siempre me he puesto retos, me encanta hacerlo. Intento que la siguiente pieza sea más difícil de hacer que la anterior. Una de las últimas piezas que hice está sin duda en mi top 3 personal, tal vez en el escalón más alto del podio. Es la pieza roja LETTERS PLAYER. Hice este diseño creo que las primeras semanas después de comprar mi iPad, como a finales de 2022, luego me olvidé de él. Sucede que quiero hacer algunas pegatinas nuevas y elijo ese diseño… cuando tengo las pegatinas en mis manos, decido que era el momento de un nuevo reto… así que lo hice. Fue un bonito reto: gran tamaño, muchas líneas rectas paralelas, formas regulares… estoy contento con el resultado.
12-Of the work you have done, commissions, etc., do you have a favorite in terms of style and difficulty?
I’ve always challanged myself, i love doing it. I try to make the next piece harder to do then the previous one. One of the last pieces i made is for sure in my personal top 3, maybe on the top step of the podium. It is the LETTERS PLAYER red piece. I make this design i think the first weeks after i bought my iPad, like in late 2022, then i forgot about it. It happen that i want to do some new stickers and i choose that design… when i have the stickers in my hands, i decide that it was time for a new challange.. so i did it. It was a nice challange: big size, a lot of parallel straight lines, regular shapes… i’m happy about the result.
