1-Cuando empezaste a pintar?

Comencé a pintar en 2015, ya estaba haciendo bocetos en ese momento. Vi a Huvil y Bovlix pintando en diferentes ocasiones; había muy pocos escritores en ese momento. El primer intento fue con latas baratas, hasta 2017, cuando Colormaze, la primera tienda de graffiti en Bahréin, abrió sus puertas.

1-When did you start painting?

I started painting in 2015, I was already sketching at the time, saw Huvil and Bovlix painting on different occasions; there were very few writers then. First attempt was with cheap cans, until 2017 where Colormaze -the first graffiti shop in Bahrain- opened .

2-De donde viene el nombre de Mokey ?

Ese es un concepto significativo y esclarecedor de parte de tu padre. Cuando practicas mucho, con el tiempo descubres tus fortalezas y debilidades, luego puedes usarlas para encontrar tu ‘Clave’. Mi madre solía llamarme Mooki, juntando esas palabras ‘MoKey’ .

2-Where the name Mokey comes from?

Something my father use with his team; When you practice a lot, by time you find your strength and weaknesses then you can use them to find your “Key”. My mother used to call me Mooki, putting them together “MoKey”.

3-Que pintura sueles usar cuando pintas?

Para la pintura en aerosol, uso tanto MTN como Loop. Intenté otros medios además de la pintura en aerosol, pero no soy tan eficiente. Por ahora, los marcadores digitales y acrílicos son las mejores alternativas, ¡jaja!

3-What paint do you usually use when you paint?

For spray paint I use both MTN and Loop, I did try other mediums than spray paint but I’m not as efficient. Digital and Acrylic markers are the best alternatives for now lol.

4-Tienes alguna gama de colores que te guste más para realizar tus piezas?

Los esquemas de color monocromáticos son mis favoritos. Últimamente, me encuentro utilizando más el turquesa y el azul marino, así como el amarillo y el granate.

4-Do you have a range of colors that you like more to make your pieces?

Monochromatic color schemes are my favorite. I find myself using turquoise and navy, yellow and maroon more lately.

5-Como definirías tu estilo ?

Influido por el antiguo estilo de letras de graffiti de Nueva York y mezclado con la cultura de la que provengo. Inspirado también por el flare tagging. Mi estilo abarca tanto piezas planas y cartoonísticas en 2D como letras realistas en 3D.

5-How would you define your style?

Influenced by old school NY graffiti lettering and mix with the culture I’m from. Inspired by the flare tagging as well. My style has both flat 2D cartoon-ish pieces and realistic 3D lettering.

6-Superficies favoritas para pintar?

Una pared antigua y rugosa de ladrillo. Es satisfactorio ver la punta deslizarse sobre una superficie así, el resultado final y la textura de la pared son distintos a los de una pared plana.

6-Favorite surfaces to paint?

An old, rough brick wall. It’s satisfying to see the point go on such surface, the end result and wall texture are different than a flat wall.

7-Ciudades donde has pintado?

En Bahréin, en muchas áreas. En el extranjero, no tanto; pinté en Kuwait en 2017. Me gustaría visitar Singapur y Alemania para un viaje de pintura.

7-Cities where you have painted?

In Bahrain, many areas. Abroad not much, I did paint in Kuwait in 2017. Would like to visit Singapore and Germany for a painting trip.

8-Que sientes al empezar a marcar tu pieza?

Hace 4 años, solía ser estresante hasta terminar la pieza, luego era un alivio. Ahora es más relajado; apago mi mente y dejo que las latas hagan el trabajo. Por supuesto, la satisfacción de terminar la pieza es una gran parte, pero disfrutar y confiar en el proceso es lo mejor.

8-What do you feel when you start marking your piece?

4 years ago it used to be nerve racking up to finishing the piece, then it’s a relief. Now It’s chill, I turn off my brain and let the cans do the work. Of course, the satisfaction of finishing the piece is a great part but enjoying and trusting the process is best.

9-Que o quien te llevó al mundo del Graffiti ?

Siempre supe acerca del Graffiti a través de películas y videojuegos, pero no sabía que era una forma de arte real. Solía hacer bocetos todo el tiempo hasta que me encontré con videos como los de Ghost EA, que me motivaron a pintar en paredes. Un saludo también a Jon Grim, el mejor mentor de Graffiti al 100%.

9-What or who took you to the world of Graffiti?

I always knew about graffiti from movies and video games but I didn’t know it was an actual art form. I used to sketch all the time until I came across videos like Ghost EA’s which motivated me to go on walls. Shoutout to Jon Grim as well, best graffiti mentor 100%.
