1-Cuando empezaste a pintar?
La primera vez que me sentí atraído por los grafitis fue en 1995, durante un viaje en tren a Suiza. Cuando el tren pasó por la famosa línea de Basilea ¡no podía creer lo que veía! Desde ese momento comencé a practicar en papel e iba a la biblioteca porque tenían el libro Subway Art y lo tomaba prestado todo el tiempo. Alrededor de 1996 probé mi primer tag en las calles y alrededor de 1997 comencé realmente a pintar.
1-When did you start painting?
The first time I was triggered by graffiti was in 1995 on a train trip to Swiss, when the train passed the famous Basel line I couldn’t believe my eyes! From that moment I started to practise on paper and went to the library because they had the book Subway Art and I borrowed it the whole time. Around 1996 I tried my first tag in the streets and around 1997 I really started to paint.
2-De donde viene el nombre de Suptil?
Antes tuve otros nombres, pero Suptil viene de la palabra holandesa “subtiel”, que significa sutil. La gente siempre pensó que era sutil en lo que hacía.
2-Where the name Suptil comes from?
I had other names before but Suptil comes from the Dutch word ‘subtiel’ what subtle means, people always thought I was subtle in what I did.
3-Que pintura sueles usar cuando pintas?
Diferentes tipos de marcas pero la más destacada es Montana Black y últimamente también A.K.A Colors Writer Series.
3-What paint do you usually use when you paint?
Different kinds of brands but the most Montana Black and lately also A.K.A Colors Writer Series.
4-Colores favoritos para tus piezas?
Todos los colores son mis favoritos pero creo que el azul, el verde y el amarillo son los colores que más aparecen en mis piezas.
4-Favorite colors for your pieces?
All colors are my favorite but I think blue, green and yellow are the most colors that appear in my pieces.
5-Cuanto piensas en Graffiti?
¡Todos los días! Desde el momento en que salgo a la calle miro todo lo que tenga que ver con grafitis, cosas de otros escritores, paredes vacías,… en el coche, en el tren… mis ojos van en todas direcciones jaja! Pero pensar no es hacer, así que es hora de ser más productivo de nuevo, mis huesos se están haciendo mayores…
5-How much do you think about Graffiti?
Everyday! From the moment I go outside I check everything what has to do with graffiti, stuff from other writers, empty walls,… in the car, in the train…my eyes go in all directions haha! But thinking is not doing, so it’s time to be more productive again, my bones are getting older….
6-Superficies favoritas para pintar?
Todo lo que resista la pintura. Paredes de hormigón, ladrillos, acero… Cada superficie tiene sus propios retos y eso la hace interesante.
6-Favorite surfaces to paint?
Anything that can withstand paint. Concrete walls, bricks, steel,…Every surface has its own challenges and that makes it interesting.
7-Cities where you have painted?
No soy un gran trotamundos, pero hice algunas cosas en Alemania, Francia, Portugal, España…
7-Ciudades dónde has pintado?
I’m not a big globetrotter but I did some stuff in Germany, France, Portugal, Spain,…
8-Cómo ves el Graffiti en España?
Me gusta el estilo vibrante con un toque a la vieja escuela. ¡Tengo toneladas de revistas de graffiti en español en casa!
8-How do you see Graffiti in Spain?
I like the vibrant style with often an Oldschool touch to it. I have tons of Spanish graffiti magazines at home!
9-Cómo está el graffiti en tu ciudad?
Están pasando muchas cosas. Veo cada vez más tags, throw-ups, paneles que pasan, piezas, murales… ¡Me encanta!
9-How is the Graffiti in your city?
There is a lot going on. I see more and more tags, throw-ups, panels rolling by, pieces, murals, …. I love it!
10-Has tenido algún escritor de referencia?
Me gustan diferentes estilos, pero los que más me gustaban en su día eran los “escritores del WyldStyle”.
10-Have you had any reference writer?
I like different styles but ‘wildstyle writers’ I liked the most back in the days.
11-Que sientes cuando pintas?
Me siento libre y feliz. Mientras pinto solo pienso en mi pieza.
11-What do you feel when you paint?
I feel free and happy. While I paint I only think about my piece.
12-Cuantos bocetos haces?
En el pasado, más que ahora, quizás tenía que hacer más bocetos. Ahora los días son más fríos y puedo dibujar un poco más… con un té, galletas y buena música…
12-How many sketches do you make?
In the past more than nowadays, maybe I have to do some more sketching. Now the days are getting colder so I can sketch a bit more…with a tea, biscuits and good music…
13-Que te da el Graffiti?
Ser creativo es una sensación agradable. Es agradable ser miembro de la comunidad de graffitis y compartir esto con otros escritores.
13-What does Graffiti give you?
Being creative. A good feeling. It feels nice to be a member of the graff community and to share this with other writers.
14-Cuando ves una pared blanca, que piensas?
Sería bueno ver una pieza sobre ello, por supuesto…
14-When you see a white wall, what do you think?
Would be nice to see a piece on it, of course…..
