1-Cuando empezaste a pintar?

Crecí en un barrio donde había mucho Graffiti. Y Graffiti de calidad en cantidad! Hijo, me fascinó e intrigó, estas letras coloridas, estas firmas…..Que la gente lo haga gratis en la calle, lo encontré original y extraordinario, y obviamente también quería hacerlo. Después de un tiempo, decidí empezar en 1998.

1-When did you start painting?

I grew up in a neighborhood where there was a lot of graffiti. And quality graffiti in quantity! Child, it fascinated me and intrigued me, these colorful letters, these signatures … That people do it for free in the street, I found it original, and extraordinary and obviously I wanted to do it too.
After a while, I decided to start in 1998.

2-Cómo fue la primera experiencia con un spray?

Es algo que nunca olvidaré! Fue en 1998, en un callejón sin salida cerca de mi casa, donde nadie iba, hice una pieza (probablemente horrible) en azul metalizado, sin efectos ni luces. De hecho, no es realmente un buen recuerdo porque no controlé los aerosoles. Se hundió en todas partes, fue difícil y largo rellenar con el difusor original del spray para el cuerpo que tenía, Además, puse pintura por todas partes!. Posteriormente, me centré más en los Tags porque era más simple y requería menos Hardware. Reinicio seriamente piezas, dos años después (en el 2000), y desde entonces nunca me he detenido.

2-How was the first experience with a spray?

It’s something I would never forget! It was in 1998, in an dead-end near my home, where nobody was going. I made a piece (probably horrible) in metallic blue, without effects or lights. In fact, it’s not really a good memory because I did not control the aerosols. It sank everywhere, it was difficult and long to fill with the original cap of the body spray I had. In addition, I put paint everywhere! Subsequently, I became more focused on tags because it was simpler and required less hardware. I restart seriously whit pieces, 2 years later (in 2000), and since then I have never stopped.

3-De dónde salió el nombre de Ryck?

Es mi primer seudónimo, lo uso desde el principio. No es original o tiene un significado preciso, solo que las letras eran geniales y que sonaba bien. Pero, en general, es más Ryke, Rike, Riker, Ricks, Skir … De acuerdo con mi estado de ánimo y las letras que pongo en el papel. También es una de las cosas que me gustan con mi nombre, solo hay una letra que es fija, el resto de las letras es libre, lo que permite variar los placeres hasta el infinito …

3-Where did the name of Ryck come from?

It’s my first pseudonym, I use it since the beginning. It’s not original or has a precise meaning, just that the letters were cool and that it sounded good. But in general it’s more Ryke, Rike, Riker, Ricks, Skir … It’s according to my mood and the letters that I put on paper. It is also one of the things I like with my name, there is only one letter that which is fixed, the rest of the letters is free which allows to vary the pleasures to infinity…

4-A que grupo perteneces?

Pertenezco a tres Crews:

SMS: La Crew que fundé con mi amiga Itea. Nadie nos aceptó cuando comenzamos en el Graffiti, así que creamos nuestro grupo nosotros mismos. Y se volvió super exclusivo como Crew.

RFK: Una Crew Franco-Belga que reúne escritores con la misma visión del Graffiti. Fundado por mi amigo Amen, la Crew está celebrando su décimo aniversario este año!

KSA: Una de lasCrews Belgas más antiguas (1986), que tuvo una gran influencia en Bélgica en el pasado. Es un gran honor para mí ser parte de esta.

4-what crew do you belong to?

I belong to three crews.

SMS: The Crew that I founded with my friend Itea. Nobody accepted us when we started graffiti, so we created our team ourselves. And it became super exclusive as crew 😀
RFK: A Franco-Belgian crew that brings together writers with the same vision of graffiti. Founded by my friend Amen, the crew is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year!
KSA: One of the oldest Belgian crews (1986), which has had a great influence in Belgium in the past. It’s a great honor for me to be part of it.

5-Que pintura sueles usar cuando pintas?

Si fuera rico (y famoso: D), solo pintaría con Belton . Pero en realidad es Montana Black o White porque para mí son los mejores colores (y Gold es demasiado expansivo). Y en realidad, es con lo que tengo! No importa la marca, el tipo de aerosoles. Si es barato o gratis, lo tomo. Y a veces un buen relleno de pintura y solo los trazos con latas de aerosol, también me conviene. Como digo a menudo: no hay latas de aerosol malas, solo hay malos escritores de Graffiti.

5-What paint do you usually use when you paint?

If I were rich (and famous :D) I would only paint whit Belton ^^ But in fact it’s usually Montana Black or White because for me it’s the best colors (And Gold it’s too expansive). And in reality, it’s with what I have! No matter the brand, the type of sprays. If it’s cheap, or free I take. And sometimes a good filling with paint and just the contours with spray cans, it suits me too. As I often say: There are no bad spray cans, there are only bad graffiti Writers .

6-Locuras hechas por el Graffiti?

Vasto tema … Pasé una semana sin parar en el coche de mi amigo Amen a merodear y golpear más de la mitad de las cocheras de trenes en Bélgica, sin ducha o realmente durmiendo … O salté de un puente porque pensé que venía la policía. Esa noche pude haber muerto … Locuras, hice muchas por el Graffiti, pero más simple, diría que el Graffiti en sí es una locura.

6-Madness made by Graffiti?

Vast subject… Have spent a week non-stop in the car of my friend Amen to prowl and hit more than half of train yards in Belgium, Without shower or really sleeping…Or jumped off a bridge because I thought the police were coming. That night I could have died… Crazy things, I did a lot for graffiti, but more simply, I would say that the graffiti itself is crazy.

7-Cómo definirías tu estilo?

Humm, difícil de definir tu propio estilo … Diría que mis letras tienen una base simple y clásica que modifico. Sobre esta base, agrego elementos para equilibrar y energizar todo. Para mí, todo debe tener estilo, pero cada letra también debe ser buena individualmente. Todos con buenos colores brillantes y tal vez algunos personajes, ¡pero primero las letras! Creo que no inventé nada, ni siquiera un estilo realmente original o único, hago el Graffiti que me gusta y me divierte.

7-How you define your style?

Hum, hard to define your own style … I would say that my letters have a simple and classic basis that I modify. On this basis, I add elements to balance and energize everything. For me, everything must have style, but each letter must also be good individually. All with good bright colors and maybe some characters, but letters first! I think I did not invent anything, or even a really original or unique style, I do the graffiti I like and it amuses me.

8-Que es lo que más te gusta del Graffiti?

Ya, el lado espontáneo y libre del graffiti. Esta forma de reclamar la ciudad y existir en particular. Entonces, el código y las reglas propias del graffiti real solo se conocen y aprecian desde dentro. En cuanto al graffiti en sí, el boceto, la elección de los colores, el lugar encontrado, ir allí, pintar …, me gusta hacer un graffiti de la A a la Z. Y a menudo es una oportunidad para pasar tiempo con amigos. Y sobre todo, se a convirtido en una necesidad física, un poco como una adicción.

8-What do I like most about Graffiti?

Already, the spontaneous and free side of graffiti. This way of reclaiming the city and exist in particular. As for the graffiti itself, the sketch, the choice of colors, the spot found, go there, paint …, I like to make a graffiti from A to Z. And it’s often an opportunity to spend time with friends. 9-Ciudades dónde has pintado?

No soy un trotamundos, ni mucho menos. Pinté casi en todas partes en mi casa en Bélgica, pero también en algunos países europeos: Holanda, Francia, Alemania, Italia, Inglaterra, Suiza … Prefiero pintar en casa que hacer horas de carretera para hacer un Graffiti. Además, puede ser peor que en casa, con tipos que no conozco y con los que ni siquiera estoy seguro de que me divierta …

9-Cities where you have painted?

I am not a globetrotter, far from it. I painted almost everywhere at home in Belgium but also in some European countries: Holland, France, Germany, Italy, England, Switzerland … I prefer to paint at home than to make hours of roads to make a graffiti. In addition it may be worse than at home, with guys I do not know and with whom I’m not even sure to have fun …

10-Graffiti legal o ilegal?

Más joven practiqué el 2, sin distinguir entre uno u otro … En la actualidad es más legal pero con una pequeña incursión menos legal para mantenerse en forma, pero digo que es un secreto jeje. Más en serio si la división Legal-Ilegal ha sido largamente debatida, actualmente la verdadera pregunta es, para mí, letra o no letra, Graffiti o Street-Art. Debido a los muchachos que dicen ser grafiteros pero nunca han hecho una letra o un tag en las calles, cada vez hay más. Pero no, hacer esos personajes o conjuntos, incluso con aerosoles, no es graffiti! Sin letras = No Graffiti!. El Graffiti pagado no es para mí, porque es una carga demasiado pesada y generalmente no me gusta el trabajo encargado. Además, no es mi visión de Graffiti, incluso si entiendo y respeto a los que lo hacen.

10-Legal or illegal graffiti?

More seriously if the Legal-Illegal divide has long been debated, currently the real question is, for me, Letter or not letter, Graffiti or Street-Art. Because of the guys who claims to be a graffiti artist but has never make a letter or a tag in the streets, there are more and more. But no, to make that characters or sets, even with sprays is not graffiti! No letters = No Graffiti!
Paid graffiti is not for me because it’s too much of a burden an I take generally no pleasure whit commissioned work. In addition it is not my vision of graffiti even if I understand and respect those who do it.

11-Has tenido influencias en el mundo del graffiti?

Ahahah, realmente no lo creo! Mi Graffiti es relativamente básico y no tiene nada, muy original o innovador para mí … Si mis amigos y chicos de mis Crews aman mis piezas, ya soy feliz.

11-Have you had any influence in the world of graffiti?

Ahahah, I really dont think so! My graffiti is relatively basic and has nothing very original or innovative for me … If my friends and guys from my crews love my pieces, I’m already happy.

12-Dónde te gustaría ir a pintar?

No soy difícil, una pared lisa (o lugar), alta y bien expuesta con la mirada retrospectiva para las fotos, y si es posible un buen ambiente ya estoy contento. Si además hay amigos, una barbacoa, buena música y un poco de sol, esto es el mejor. Si el lugar no está muy lejos de casa, me apunto.

12-Where would you like to go to paint?

I’m not difficult, a smooth wall (or place), high and well exposed with hindsight for photos and if possible a good atmosphere and I’m happy. If in addition there are friends, a barbecue, good music and a little sun, this is the best. If the spot is not too far from home, I sign on.

13-Sensaciones al empezar y terminar una pieza?

Como dije antes, tengo una necesidad física de hacer Graffiti. Después de un tiempo, termino dando vueltas en casa, pintar es un poco como una liberación … Dibujar el boceto da el ritmo de la pintura y suelo saber rápidamente si la pieza se suavizará o si voy a tener un momento difícil … Y al final de un Graffiti, veo más que los defectos, lo que podría haber hecho mejor. Lo que me impulsa a hacer más para mejorar mi estilo y la representación de mis piezas.

13-Sensations when starting and finishing a piece?

As I said above, I have a physical need to make graffiti. After a while, I ended up going round at home, painting is a bit like a liberation … Drawing the sketch gives the rhythm of the painting and I usually know quickly, if the piece will smooth or if I’m going to have a hard time … And at the end of a graffiti, I soon see more than the defects, which I could have done better. Which drives me to do more to improve my style and the rendering of my pieces.
